Back plates and tail spikes are smaller and havent become like the adults.
Preferred Habitat: Open Jungles and sparse Redwood Forest's, preferrably with a water source nearby.
Diet: Vegitation that is low to the ground. Due to it's simple tooth design, it usually swallows the food whole then swallows small stones, which will grind up the vegitation in it's stomach. Prefers to eat soft plants rather than hard vegitation.
Family: Stegosauride
Social Structure: Usually in family herds that have up to 20 individuals, which mainly consist of adults, sub-adults and young. Will often mix with other Stegosaurus herds, as well as mix with groups of sauropods and hadrosaurs such as Brachiosaurus or Stegosaurus.
Description: Large, quadrupedal herbivore; a stegosaur, the largest of it's family. Has 2 front legs that are shorten than their hind legs, which are all thick. Has a long tail with 4 large, meter long tail spikes, with 2 on each side of the tail. The most recognizable and notable feature of Stegosaurus are the large, bony back plates which start out at the top of the neck, and end near the end of the tail. These are used to help the animal attract mates, but also help the animal cool off and heat up. Has a small skull with a even smaller brain inside it; the brain is roughly the size of a walnut.
Behavior's: Stegosaurus is one of the most recognizable and most common herbivores on Isla Sorna. Made famous by the outside world, Stegosaurus is popular from it's large, meter high back plates; 22 plates in total. These plates are mainly used to help attract mates, but also helps the animal cool down in times of intense heat, as well as cool down. The way it does this is it sends blood up to the plates, and the excess heat flushes out from the body. The process of the blood in the plates also causes the plates to change color, usually pink or red. It uses this feature to help scare away an attacker; the bright colors would scare off a predator. The other famous feature of Stegosaurus are the 4, meter long tail spikes on the end of the tail. These are used as a defensive structure; if the Stegosaurus were to be attacked by a predator, such as Allosaurus, the Stegosaurus would wield it's tail around, trying to hit the attacker with it's tail spikes. This, if it lands a direct hit, will kill the predator instantly. Despite it's defensive strategies, Stegosaurus is primarily a dumb animal; it's brain is roughly the size of a walnut. Even with it's small brain size, Stegosaurus is actually as smart as a modern dog, able to plan out simple plans and create defensive formations.
